3.2 Lakshmi! I worship you for all the mangalam

Sloka 2

कल्याण दिव्यकरुणादिगुणाम्बुराशे

काङ्क्षाधिकाभ्युदयदायिकटाक्षलेशे

भद्राय दैत्यजिदुरःकृतनित्यवासे

भक्तिस्थिरेण मनसा भवतीमुपासे

kalyāṇa divyakaruṇādiguṇāmburāśe

kāṅkṣādhikābhyudayadāyikaṭākṣaleśe

bhadrāya daityajiduraḥkṛtanityavāse

bhaktisthireṇa manasā bhavatīmupāse

கல்யாண தி₃வ்யகருணாதி₃கு₃ணாம்பு₃ராஶே

காங்க்ஷாதி₄காப்₄யுத₃யதா₃யிகடாக்ஷலேஶே

ப₄த்ராய தை3த்யஜிது₃ர: க்ருதநித்யவாஸே

ப₄க்திஸ்தி₂ரேண மனஸா ப₄வதீமுபாஸே

Commentary:

The Ocean of auspicious and supreme qualities such as mercy! The One who possesses glances that can grant moksha- a benefit greater than any wish! The One who lives eternally on the chest of the Victor of Asuras! I worship You, incessantly with firm devotion to attain auspiciousness (moksha).

கருணை முதலிய மங்களமான திவ்ய குணங்களின் கடலைப் போன்றவளே! விரும்பியதற்கும் மேலான பலனான மோட்சத்தை அளிக்கும் கடைக்கண் பார்வையை உடையவளே! அசுரர்களை வென்றவனிடம் நித்யவாசம் செய்பவளே, தேவரீரை உறுதியான பக்தியுடன் மங்களங்களைப் பெற (மேட்சத்தைப் பெற) மனத்தால் உபாசிக்கிறேன்.

Commentary:

This slokam refers to bhakti yogam wherein one meditates upon the Lord without 

any interruption like the oil that flows without any break (tila taila dhAravat). It is 

a very difficult sAdhanA fraught with obstacles to gain Moksham compared to the 

easier means of Prapatti. 

The eternal presence (Krta nitya vAsam) on the Lord’s chest is to be there at all 

times to protect us from the anger of the Lord against our trespasses of His 

Saastrams.
